Privacy Policy

FrameRipper is a free browser-based video frame extraction tool operated as an independent project. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights described below, contact frameripper@icloud.com.

FrameRipper processes video entirely inside your web browser using the HTML5 Video and Canvas APIs. When you select a file, it is read locally from your device, decoded by your browser, and written back out as images by your browser. No video data, no extracted frames, and no file metadata are ever uploaded to any server.

You do not have to take our word for this. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run an extraction. You will see no outbound requests carrying your file. You can also disconnect from the internet entirely after the page loads and the tool will continue to work.

We have no access to, and do not store:

• Your video files or any part of their contents
• The images extracted from them
• File names, durations, resolutions or other file metadata
• Account credentials, because there are no accounts
• Names, email addresses or postal addresses, unless you email us directly
• Payment information, because nothing is for sale

We use Vercel Analytics to understand which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. It collects aggregated, anonymous data: the page URL, the country, the browser type and the referring site. It does not set cookies and does not build a profile that could identify you.

We use this to decide which guides are worth writing and which parts of the tool need work. Nothing more. Vercel's analytics privacy documentation describes their handling in detail.

FrameRipper displays advertising to cover the cost of running the site. Advertising is served on the tool page and within blog articles. Landing pages for individual formats do not carry advertising.

We use Google AdSense. Google is a third-party vendor and uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to FrameRipper and other sites on the internet. Specifically:

• Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising.
• Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Ad personalisation can be turned off at any time, and non-personalised ads will be shown instead.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalised advertising by many third-party vendors at aboutads.info or Your Online Choices in Europe. Google's own practices are described in their privacy and terms for partner sites.

Advertising does not change how the extraction tool works. Your video files remain on your device regardless of whether ads are shown, and no information about the files you process is available to advertisers or to us.

FrameRipper itself sets no cookies. The tool does not need them and we do not use them for tracking, fingerprinting or identification.

Advertising cookies are set by Google and its partners, not by us, and are described in the advertising section above and in more detail on our cookie policy page.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before any advertising cookies are set. You can accept, reject, or choose specific purposes, and you can change your decision at any time through the privacy settings link in the site footer.

Rejecting consent does not restrict your access to any part of FrameRipper. The extraction tool works identically either way; you will simply see non-personalised advertising instead.

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Under the CCPA and CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

In practice we hold almost nothing to act on. We do not operate accounts, we do not collect names or email addresses through the site, and your video files are never transmitted to us. Requests relating to advertising data held by Google are best directed to Google through the links in the advertising section, since that data sits with them rather than with us. For anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.

We do not sell personal information, and we never have.

FrameRipper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Because your files are never uploaded, there is no file retention period to describe and no store of user content that could be breached. The site is served over HTTPS. Server logs held by our hosting provider may contain IP addresses and request metadata for a limited period as part of normal operation and abuse prevention.

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will be updated and the change will be described here. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
